Potter’s Bakery has baked in Traverse City since 1929, when Norman and Julia Potter opened the original downtown shop; it is now in its fourth generation under Becky and her husband Bill, who carry on with the bakery’s own recipes and local products where possible. The full-line bakery makes more than 24 donut varieties, including raised donuts, cherry apple fritters, cream-filled long johns, and thousands of paczki each Fat Tuesday season, plus breads, cookies, and custom wedding and occasion cakes. A second location on Hall Street on the west side of town serves breakfast and lunch. Voted the #3 donut shop in Michigan by the Michigan Small Business Spotlight audience.
