McLean and Eakin Booksellers Spotlight: Petoskey, Michigan

Since 1992, McLean and Eakin Booksellers has been one of the best reasons to wander into downtown Petoskey.

Located at 307 E Lake Street in the Historic Gaslight District, McLean and Eakin is an independent bookstore committed to helping independent minds grow. The shelves are stocked with the latest across every genre, a well-curated children’s section, a strong collection of regional and Northern Michigan titles, and one of the best Hemingway selections you will find anywhere in the state. Staff recommendations are genuinely worth reading.

But McLean and Eakin is more than a bookstore. They carry vinyl records and record players, comics, and tabletop games, making it the kind of stop where you can spend an afternoon without running out of things to discover.

Their commitment to the community is built into the business model. Their 10% for schools program gave over $100,000 to local schools and nonprofits by 2010. In 2004 they received the Haslam Award for Excellence in Bookselling, and in 2000 they were nationally recognized for their children’s programming with the Lucile Micheels Pannell Award.

Open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 7 PM and Sunday from 11 AM to 5 PM. Visit them at mcleanandeakin.com.
