Everybody Reads Books and Stuff Spotlight: Lansing, Michigan

Lansing has one locally owned independent bookstore. And for over 20 years, Everybody Reads Books and Stuff has been making the most of that responsibility.

Founded in 2005 and located at 2019 E Michigan Avenue in the heart of Lansing, Everybody Reads was built from the ground up to serve underrepresented individuals, families, and communities. Their inventory is intentional, covering LGBTQ literature, feminist writing, environmental topics, mental health, social justice, multicultural voices, and a wide range of perspectives you will not find at a chain bookstore.

But Everybody Reads is more than a place to buy books. It is a community center. Monthly book clubs bring readers together around shared stories. Author events fill the calendar. Staff curate recommendations with genuine care for the reader, not just the sale. Locals consistently describe it as an important part of what makes Lansing feel like home.
