Driving through Fenton in the fall, the smell of apple cider travels before you can see where it is coming from. Spicer Orchards has been producing that smell and everything that goes with it since the family farm took root on Fenton Road, and it has grown into one of Southeast Michigan’s most beloved agritourism destinations.
Located at 10411 Fenton Rd in Fenton, Spicer Orchards is a working farm that opens its gates to the public in a way that makes the seasons feel tangible again. Pick-your-own apples, peaches, and other fruits give families the chance to spend time on the land that produces the food rather than just buying it at a counter. The farm market carries fresh produce alongside cider pressed on site, and the bakery turns that produce into pies, doughnuts, fritters, and baked goods that have developed their own loyal following across Genesee and Oakland counties.
The cider doughnuts deserve specific mention: warm, spiced, dusted with cinnamon sugar, and eaten best in the parking lot while the cider is still warm in your cup. This is fall in Michigan at its most uncomplicated and satisfying.
The farm is busiest in September and October when the apple harvest is in full swing, but the market operates through the season and gives the community a connection to agriculture that increasingly few suburban places can offer.
Michigan Small Business Spotlight is proud to feature Spicer Orchards as one of Southeast Michigan’s most cherished and seasonally essential small businesses.
