Arcadia Ales Spotlight: Battle Creek, Michigan

Tim Suprise opened Arcadia Ales in Battle Creek in 1996 with a focus on English-style ales brewed with a commitment to traditional technique. Nearly thirty years later, Arcadia is one of the most established craft breweries in the state and a point of pride for West Michigan’s beer community.

Located at 103 W Michigan Ave in downtown Battle Creek, the Arcadia taproom sits in a historic building with the kind of exposed brick and high ceilings that suit a craft brewery well. The atmosphere is comfortable and unpretentious, designed for people who come for the beer and want to stay awhile.

The core lineup includes beers like Jaw-Jacker Amber Ale, Loch Down Scotch Ale, and Angler’s Ale, built on English brewing traditions that emphasize balance and drinkability. Seasonal releases and rotating taps give the menu depth across the year and reward customers who pay attention to what is coming up next.

Arcadia also has a presence in Kalamazoo, giving West Michigan drinkers easy access to the brand without the drive to Battle Creek. But the original taproom retains the character of the brewery’s founding, and visiting it feels like connecting with the real thing.

The food menu is kitchen-made and substantial enough to make Arcadia a destination for a full evening rather than just a quick stop.
