Black Star Farms Spotlight: Suttons Bay, Michigan

In the Leelanau Peninsula wine country north of Traverse City, Black Star Farms has built something that goes well beyond a winery. This is a working farm, an inn, a creamery, a distillery, and one of the most complete agritourism experiences in the Midwest, all rooted in the belief that Michigan’s land produces world-class food and drink.

Located at 10844 E Revold Rd in Suttons Bay, Black Star Farms grows grapes across two properties and produces wines that have earned national and international recognition. Riesling, pinot noir, pinot grigio, and several sparkling wines make up the core of the lineup, with enough variety to reward multiple visits through different seasons.

The on-site creamery produces artisan cheeses made from milk sourced locally, and the farmstead cheese selection is thoughtfully put together for pairings with their wines. The inn offers lodging in a converted carriage house with views of the farm and surrounding vineyards.

Hard cider and spirits from their distillery round out the tasting experience. A visit to Black Star Farms can stretch across an entire afternoon without feeling rushed, which is exactly the point.
